Adult Contemporary Composer / Musician Jim Couchenour chose music over sports in high school to the amazement of his family and coaches. Always an outstanding athlete, Jim made the decision to follow his passion and has not looked back. Traveling extensively with Contemporary Christian Band Deliverance, Jim recorded two releases with them, honing his writing and production skills. Becoming Worship Leader at New Hope Community Church from 1996 to 2002, Jim and The New Hope Worship Team recorded and released ‘Warehouse Praise’ in 1999. Joining Alternative Funk Jazz band, SounDoctrine in 2003, he began traveling and recording with the group, releasing his solo debut CD, ‘Living Colour’ in October 2004. In 2007, Jim released ‘Quiet Canvas’ which was branded as “a compilation of thoughtful, melodic songs that invite the listener to a ‘creative place” of their own.” Two tracks, “In The Know” and “Crystal Snow” entered heavy rotation on The Weather Channel. Similarly, songs he had penned for SounDoctrine’s 2006 “Endurance” album, “Smallmouth Bass”, “Sacrifice” and “Boys In The Wood” also found air on TWC. This distinction marked Jim as being one of the first independent artists with five songs receiving national attention without the support of major distribution. In late 2007, Jim began touring coffee houses to bring awareness to his music. In between shows, he began developing material for plays and helped put together a troupe to perform live comedy at The Main Street Theatre in Columbiana, OH. Jim created a variety of interactive characters and ‘Saturday Night Live’ style sketches. “Finding Columbiana’s Christmas” and “Main Street Madness” have played to large audiences since their inception. Jim Couchenour is a Marketing and Business Management Graduate of Youngstown State and Mount Vernon Universities, respectively, earning his MBA in 1980. He is presently the Director of Marketing & Ministry Services at Cogun, Inc. Jim and Lynette, his wife of 22 years are the proud parents of two adult daughters Katie and Jamie, both now married. His hobbies include making rustic furniture, computer graphic arts, writing dramas, creating music, reading western novels, running and drinking Chai tea. He continues to write articles for national publications such as Christianity Today and Worship Facilities magazines. In late 2009, Jim released his latest CD, “Quiet Canvas II” which continued his creative, meditative brand. TWC quickly placed two songs, “Mountain Fall” & “Maggie” into their winter rotation simultaneously. They also included the remix of “Smallmouth Bass” featuring Smooth Jazz legend, Bob Baldwin into their recurring repertoire. This inclusion totaled eight of the composer’s songs into national prominence. Jim Couchenour has lived with a condition known as Tourette’s syndrome since he was very young. This condition is a neurological disorder that causes vocal grunts, ticks, and in severe cases, outbursts of inappropriate language. He lived with a mild form of Tourette’s for 26 years before discovering what it actually was. His instrumental composition, ‘Tourette’s Tribute’, from his “Living Colour” CD is a celebration of the fact that one can have Tourette’s and still lead a healthy, normal life. Many of the percussion sounds in the song mimic the actual vocal manifestations of Tourette’s. Jim has written a play based upon his experience with Tourette’s entitled “me & myself” which was performed in early 2010 at The Main Street Theatre and featured songs from QCII.
