Company History

Composer/Producer/Musician Gerald H. Beulah, Jr. (Jere B) left his ‘day job’ at WKBN Radio permanently in January 2003. He had enjoyed remarkable success in helping to transform the legendary ‘Dan Ryan Talk Show’ on 570-AM into one of the most popular morning shows in the Mahoning Valley.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedies, Jere began to revaluate his life and priorities and began to aggressively pursue his passion for music production
and performance.

Compiling musical tracks he’d written and produced in his spare time, Jere B recorded a landmark CD, “Perseverance” under the name ‘SounDoctrine.’

Encouraged by positive reviews for the music and multiple bookings for his newly assembled quartet, the band began touring the Northeast Ohio /Western Pa regions, adding members and spreading their territory as far as New York and Los Angeles.

When digital distribution sales began to attract international attention, Mr. Beulah formed Tejai, Ltd (named after his eldest daughter) and the subsequent label, Niayana Recordings (named for his younger daughters, Nia & Ayana) in which to produce and release future projects.

In spring of 2004, Niayana Recordings began to aggressively test market the band SounDoctrine and projects by Adult Contemporary Composer Jim Couchenour for multimedia entertainment and released a documentary DVD which earned them a coveted position as a finalist for the 2004 Hollywood Black Film Festival in Los Angeles. Both SounDoctrine & Jim Couchenour has continued to release multiple albums, garnering national airplay and performing in select venues across the country.

On August 30, 2009, Niayana signed seven additional artists to the burgeoning label, expanding their musical palette and demographic, creating one of the most creatively diverse companies in the Northeastern Ohio / Western Pennsylvania region.

Niayana Recordings has also added two publishing companies to its roster, Niayana Music Publishing (ASCAP) & Tejai Music Publishing (BMI). The Company also plans to expand its business into Artist Management in the very near future

Contrasting antiquated scenarios in which a record company spends more money on producing ‘disposable’ music than they do in cultivating and expanding its artists’ talents and opportunities, Niayana Recordings utilizes the talents of experienced and resourceful composers, music producers, film directors and entertainment futurists to ensure the highest quality product within established production budgets while simultaneously allowing the artist to produce their best body of work, unhindered by the politics of ‘hit-making.’ This practice, in conjunction with cutting edge marketing, promotion and technologically advanced strategies guarantee the impetus necessary to create “winning” products in the marketplace.

Niayana Recordings has also taken a non-traditional approach in securing and controlling the rights to each media release of a Niayana Artist. Rather than owning the “album” outright, the company opts to licenses the body of work thus obtaining worldwide rights to distribute and sell the product, splitting all profits with the artist in variances up to 50%.

While these methods may seem outlandish by industry standards, Niayana Recordings is committed to  the felicity of its talent company wide. Niayana artists have a more
‘hands on’ approach in their own careers. Niayana Recordings act as assistants in the Artist’s career, helping to facilitate them, rather than merely exploiting their creativity and stripping them of their artistic rights for monetary gain.
